Crossing The Jordan

(June 27, 2011) There was a tv show called "Crossing Jordan" that demonstrated how even today the image of the Jordan River can be morphed into a secular hook that gets people's attention even if the way the image is being used has nothing to do with what the Bible was trying to teach us about crossing the Jordan River.

All but the most uninformed people--babes in Christ Paul would have called them--know that crossing the Jordan in the Bible had absolutely nothing to do with the River itself--certainly not in the way crossing the Red Sea had everything to do with the Red Sea as itself an obstacle that required Divine Intervention for God's people to cross. As the picture of the Jordan River below shows, in some places the Jordan is eminently crossable, as crossable as any creek in your neighborhood, as crossable as any creek on earth, even crossable enough so you don't have to get your feet wet crossing it.

So what made crossing the Jordan River such a mighty symbol, one that would cause God's chosen people to shrink back in utter fear and wander in a desert for forty years rather than cross the Jordan?

Crossing the Jordan wasn't the problem.

What was on the other side of the Jordan, that was the problem.

War was on the other side of the Jordan. But not war in the sense that you and I have been trained to think about it. The children of Israel knew full well that if they crossed the Jordan there would be no turning back. Even if they tried to change their minds once they crossed the Jordan, they would never be allowed to live. That's what it meant to cross the Jordan.

It was like Hitler and WW II, either he would die or he would burn the world around him.

So it was with the children of Israel and the Canaanites. Crossing the Jordan meant one thing and one thing only: the children of Israel would have to utterly defeat the people on the other side of the Jordan or God would defeat them.

God had made that about as clear as God could make anything clear to the creatures who were created in His image.

Num 33:50 And the LORD spake unto Moses in the plains of Moab by Jordan near Jericho, saying, Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye are passed over Jordan into the land of Canaan; Then ye shall drive out all the inhabitants of the land from before you, and destroy all their pictures, and destroy all their molten images, and quite pluck down all their high places: And ye shall dispossess the inhabitants of the land, and dwell therein: for I have given you the land to possess it.

And ye shall divide the land by lot for an inheritance among your families: and to the more ye shall give the more inheritance, and to the fewer ye shall give the less inheritance: every man's inheritance shall be in the place where his lot falleth; according to the tribes of your fathers ye shall inherit.

But if ye will not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you; then it shall come to pass, that those which ye let remain of them shall be pricks in your eyes, and thorns in your sides, and shall vex you in the land wherein ye dwell. Moreover it shall come to pass, that I shall do unto you, as I thought to do unto them.

Those who know me can guess where this is heading, but for those who don't I'm going to try to show you that Christians in the USA today are exactly like the children of Israel when they had crossed the Jordan, entered the promised land, thought they had whipped the enemy and instead of doing what God said do, started fucking around.

I use the term fucking around because it might have the ability to get people to actually think about what it means to allow the enemy to use the libido as the carrot that has made the world's stick unneeded except for a very few people like me who have been startled by God into realizing how this generation of American Christians embodies the surrender to the libido that was always prophesied by the Catholic Priests to be the inevitable "fruit" of the Protestant Reformation.

This woodcut from 1630 shows how cartoons were mass produced that clearly told people that Luther's Reformation was about abandoning the role of the eunuch (the vows of celibacy Luther had taken as a Catholic Priest) for the kingdom of heaven's sake and, carrying Christians along so they could all fuck around, having babies, and enjoying themselves in this world instead of taking care of the business of the kingdom of heaven.

Were Catholic Priests not so deeply enmeshed in their own libido enslavement today, the guffaws of Catholic Priests--the holy I-told-you-so--would have pealed louder than any church bell.

But of course hardly anybody is talking about the fact that Christians are just as bribed into enslavement to the god of this world as the horniest pagan. That's because most everybody, Christians included, knows they have chosen their own personal pleasure as a higher priority than the truth of the word of God.

I don't expect hardly anybody to understand what I'm talking about. The blindness is almost complete. The world has always been blind, but when Christians are blinded, the blindness is almost complete.

The Christian collaboration with legalized murder and legalized sodomy can be tracked as surely as any criminal was ever tracked right to the decision of Christians to choose their own personal libido pleasure above any duty they have to cross the Jordan and "...drive out all the inhabitants of the land from before you, and destroy all their pictures, and destroy all their molten images, and quite pluck down all their high places..."
